Dental Emergency FAQ
Do you accept emergency walk-ins?
We recommend calling ahead so we can reserve time for you, but we do our best to accommodate same-day dental emergencies whenever possible.
Can I be seen if I’m not an existing patient?
Yes. Prism Dental welcomes both new and existing patients for urgent dental care.
What should I do if I knock out a tooth?
If a tooth is completely knocked out, keep it moist by placing it in a small container of milk or saliva (not water). Avoid touching the root, and bring the tooth with you to your appointment as soon as possible.
What if I’m bleeding or have swelling?
Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth or gauze to manage bleeding, and use a cold compress on the outside of the cheek to reduce swelling. Avoid aspirin unless directed, as it may increase bleeding.
Should I avoid eating or drinking before my emergency visit?
Yes—if you’re in pain or have a broken or sensitive tooth, avoid chewing on the affected side. Refrain from very hot, cold, or sugary foods until you’ve been seen
Will my dental insurance cover an emergency visit?
Most insurance plans offer some level of emergency dental coverage. We’ll help you understand your benefits before treatment begins. We also offer flexible payment options for patients without insurance.
